STEVENS POINT - A 24-year-old Stevens Point father has pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the death of his 5-week-old son.
Scott Stevens pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree reckless homicide in a plea bargain. He had been charged with first-degree reckless homicide.
Sakota Stevens died after being taken off life support Jan. 29, five days after he was brought to a Stevens Point hospital with head injuries.
The father told authorities he was tossing the child in to the air and missed catching him, causing the baby to strike his head on the floor.
Portage County Assistant District Attorney David Knaapen says the maximum punishment for second-degree reckless homicide is 25 years in prison. The father is to be sentenced Dec. 9.
