Trial Begins for Father Accused in 4-month-old daughter's death (Sioux City, Iowa)

Dad PAUL HILL is now on trial for the death of his 4-month-old daughter. He is charged with Child Endangerment Resulting in Death, which is a rather odd sounding charge to my ears. How come not manslaughter, or involunary manslaughter?

Trial Begins for Father Accused in 4-Month-Old's Death

The trial for a Sioux City man accused of fatally injuring his infant daughter begins. 21-year-old Paul Hill pled not guilty to Child Endangerment Resulting in Death last year for the February 17th, 2009 death of 4-month old Tryniti.

Hill waived his right to a jury trial so the judge will rule in this case. The state called its first witness, Tryniti's mother, Tuesday Morning.

Her testimony walked through the days and hours leading up to Tryniti's death. She says Paul called her at work and told her Tryniti was gasping for breath. She rushed home to find her daughter lying on the floor in their home.

"She was unresponsive. She was pale. I couldn't tell, I believe she had a pulse. She wasn't breathing," said Kayla Hegge.

The trial continued into the afternoon and will continue Wednesday morning.
