A 26-year-old Harford County man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday after he admitted to killing his 14-month-old daughter in June.

Keaton Boyd Irons, of Edgewood, also will serve five years on supervised probation after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

The victim, Shamyrah Irons, died the day after paramedics took her to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Center in Baltimore. The state medical examiner's office ruled that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Police were called June 1 to the Irons house, in the 1700 block of Fountain Rock Way, where they found Shamyrah breathing but unconscious. Prosecutors said the father denied any knowledge of how the child was injured, but he was the only person in the home at the time.

The victim's mother, Ashley Rosette, told Harford County Circuit Court Judge Emory A. Plitt Jr. at sentencing: "I know Keaton is a good father and would never do anything to hurt the children."
