"Caring" dad jailed over manslaughter of newborn daughter (Brisbane, Australia)

Why is it that killer dads like SHAUN ANTHONY EDWARDS are consistently labeled as "caring" or "loving" and all that rot--when their actions show them to be quite the contrary?

A "caring" parent takes a deep breath when the baby is crying and deals with it. A "caring" parent does not "lose it" because he's "frustrated" and murder a newborn.

Father jailed over baby's manslaughter

A 24-year-old man from Queensland's Gold Coast has been jailed over the manslaughter of his newborn daughter.

Construction worker Shaun Anthony Edwards pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter, when he appeared in the Supreme Court in Brisbane today.

The court heard Edwards and his fiance had not been coping with the birth of their child.

Edwards later told police that his daughter would not stop crying and he "lost it", vigorously shaking the 17-day-old baby three or four times at his Varsity Lakes home in October 2009.

The court heard the baby girl suffered catastrophic brain injuries when she was shaken by her father.

The child died in the Mater Hospital shortly after doctors turned off her life support.

Edwards' lawyer Greg McGuire said family and friends believed his client was a caring father, but says the construction worker was suffering from fatigue and frustration when the incident occurred at his Varsity Lakes home.

Justice John Byrne jailed Edwards for seven-and-a-half-years, with a parole eligibility date in April next year.
