TUCSON - A Tucson man is behind bars for allegedly abusing his own 3 month old girl.

Twenty year old Devon Jackson faces three counts of child abuse, while his daughter is recovering her mother.

Police were first notified of the possible abuse by a local hospital. When they arrived doctors were already treating the 3 month old girl for third degree burns over 20% of her body, and broken ribs.

Wednesday Jackson was arrested for the whole thing.

Jackson told police the burns were from bath water that accidently got too hot, but police said that didn't explain the broken ribs and bruising found all over her body so after interviews and looking at evidence police arrested him.

Police said these are the cases they never want to work, but in the end they're glad they did.

Sgt. Maria Hawke with the Tucson Police Department said, "It reminds us that this is one of the biggest reasons why we do our job. We're out there to try to protect everybody no matter how small they may be, or what the investigation may entail."

Police said the victim is expected to recover but that doesn't lessen the charges.

Hawke said, "There's only one class level felony higher than class 2 and that's a class 1 and that's essentially premeditated murder. This ranks right up there. It's a serious offense and definitely warranted in this investigation."

As for the mother in this case police said she was at the home at the time of the abuse but they believe she was sleeping and had nothing to do with it so she is not being looked at as a suspect, just Jackson.
