MOSES LAKE - A 4-month-old Moses Lake girl was hospitalized Sunday after her father allegedly assaulted her in an effort to keep her quiet, according to a Moses Lake police statement issued Monday.

Just after midnight on Sunday, Moses Lake police officers responded to Samaritan Hospital for injuries to the 4-month-old baby brought into the emergency department, according to reports. The child was reportedly suffering from bleeding in the brain.

Detectives determined the child had been left in the care of her father, David L. Gilman, 21, of Moses Lake, at a residence on the 500 block of Grape Drive in Moses Lake. According to reports, Gilman was watching the child while the mother was out for the night.

The investigation revealed Gilman allegedly become upset when the child would not stop crying. He then allegedly assaulted the child in an attempt to stop her from crying, according to reports. Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Sands stated information on the specifics of the assault will not be released until further investigated.

Gilman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree child assault and booked into the Grant County Jail.

The child was treated at Samaritan Hospital and later transported to another medical facility with a trauma care center for children, according to the report. The child's condition was not released
