FORT EDWARD, N.Y. – As officials await autopsy results on a three-month old Fort Edward boy who police say was killed by his father, his tragic case is being cited by advocates as an example of why the state needs stricter child abuse laws.

Hands Across New York, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children, held a public rally Wednesday at the Washington County Municipal Center in Fort Edward on Wednesday.

Ralliers lined Broadway in Fort Edward to remember the lost life and to bring awareness to child abuse they say must stop. Many came out with signs and pins and loud voices to take a stand for baby Brett King, who police say was killed by his father, Kevin King.

King, 30, is charged with murder and manslaughter in connection to the boy's death. Police say he was playing video games Sunday, became angry with the baby and shook him, throwing him to the ground. The child later died at Albany Medical Center.

This rally continued until dusk and then turned into a candle light vigil for the young boy.

Calling hours for Brett King will be Friday, August 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home on 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
