Dad disappears after bringing dead 5-month-old son to hospital; what happened to Mom? (Mendocino County, California)

While there is mention of dad CASIMIR G. JANUSZ's "family property," there is no mention of this dead baby's mother living there--or anywhere else.

In fact, there is no mention of the baby's mother at all.

Why? Is this a single father? Did he have custody? What? How can the news media continually write up these kinds of stories without asking the simplest of questions?

For there to be a baby, there must have been a woman (commonly known as the MOTHER) who gave birth sometime in the last year or so. Unlike fathers, mothers do not typically take off and abandon their babies after birth. So what happened to her???

The Ukiah Police Department ramped up its search Friday for a local man who disappeared after taking his dead baby boy to the hospital.

"We searched the area of (Casimir G. Janusz's) last known location near Hopland," UPD Chief Chris Dewey said, adding that officers used ATVs, dogs and helicopters to search the area the past few days, but we "were unable to locate him."

Janusz, 36, of Ukiah, has not been seen or heard from since Wednesday morning, when he took his 5-month-old boy to Ukiah Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Janusz brought the child, who was unresponsive, to the hospital about 9:30 a.m. Oct. 16. After the child was determined to be deceased, Janusz then reportedly left the hospital without an explanation.

Officers learned that Janusz drove to his family's property in the Hopland area, where he reportedly abandoned his vehicle and disappeared.

The UPD and the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office then began working together to locate Janusz and determine why the child had died.

"A full investigation into the child's death, including an autopsy, is under way," Dewey said.

Sgt. Jason Caudillo of the MCSO said an autopsy had been performed on the boy but no cause or manner of death had been determined yet.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma," Caudillo said, adding that the results of the autopsy are pending the return of toxicology results, which he said could take "up to two weeks."

Dewey said the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office also assisted with the search Friday, and "we are appealing to anyone who may have information on Janusz's whereabouts to contact the UPD at 707-463-6262."
