Dad, girflriend charged with assaulting 2-year-old daughter; what happened to the mother of this child? (Cold Lake, Edmonton, Canada)

Is UNNAMED DAD a custodial father? Notice that there is no explanation here as to how Dad and his gal pal came to have access to/possession of this child. So we don't know if this was a casual babysitting situation, whether Mom is deceased or "missing," whether this is court-ordered visitation, or dad had full legal custody.

These are important questions to ask, as men don't give birth. So when they have possession of a young child and there is no mother in the home, there is always a story behind that. So how did these two idiots get this child?

Release conditions specify that the Cold Lake father cannot see his daughter.

Cold Lake RCMP have charged the father of a two-year old girl and as his girlfriend after a complaint of child abuse was reported to RCMP on Wednesday.

Sgt. Brent Sawatzky of the Cold Lake RCMP says police investigated the accusations and found that the young girl was suffering from injuries that occurred approximately one week prior. The child was transported by air ambulance from Cold Lake to an Edmonton hospital for treatment. She remains in hospital in stable condition.

The 30-year old father of the little girl has been charged with assault, failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. He has been released from police custody and is to have no contact with his daughter.

The man’s girlfriend, a 21-year old Cold Lake woman has been charged with aggravated assault, failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. She has been released from police custody with a number of conditions, including having no contact with the victim and is to not have any unsupervised access to children under 18-years of age.

Both the man and woman are scheduled to appear in court in Cold Lake on Jan. 8.
