"Caretaker" dad neglects kids while mom works (Fort Wayne, Indiana)

Contrary to the warm and fuzzy articles you see in your Sunday paper, there are too many "stay-at-home" dads who sound just like this one--unemployed/unemployable deadbeats with drug/alcohol problems. Mom is forced to work to support the family while Daddy does nothing but f*** up (at least this one didn't kill a child because he was "frustrated".) Meanwhile, she can't kick him out or he'll get joint custody (if she's lucky) or even full custody.

Dad is identified as STEPHEN ANTHONY FELTS.

Neglect charged in toddler case

The Journal Gazette

A Fort Wayne man who left two toddlers outside and his infant in an apartment alone was charged Monday with neglect of a dependent.

According to court documents, a woman called police about 8 p.m. Nov. 28 and said she found two toddlers out in the cold crying in front of a home.

The woman took the children inside and waited for police.

Officers could hear a child crying inside, according to court documents.

After entering the home, officers found an infant on the couch crying and no adults in the apartment.

While police waited for the Department of Child Services to arrive, Stephen Anthony Felts returned to the apartment and told officers he had gone out for a cellphone charger.

Felts, the father of the infant, was responsible for watching the children while their mother was at work, court documents said.

Felts, 28, told police he went next door to get the charger and when he returned he saw police and thought he might be arrested for trespassing. Officers said

Felts smelled of alcohol, the documents said. Felts said he had been drinking earlier in the day, but refused alcohol or drug testing.

Felts, of the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue, had not been arrested Monday.
