Dad holds 1-year-old son hostage in SWAT standoff (Tarpon Springs, Florida)

I'm thinking it's highly likely that UNNAMED DAD is a single father. Notice that there is mention of his mother, but not the baby's mother. Does the baby's mother live elsewhere? Seems so. At any rate, we once again have a father who should NOT have been allowed access. We're just lucky this little boy wasn't seriously injured or killed in all this Daddy Drama.

A man and his 1-year-old son are safe this morning after an overnight SWAT standoff in Tarpon Springs.

The standoff ended at 5:36 a.m., when the 27-year-old man came out of the house with his baby after talking with negotiators, Tarpon Springs police said.

The child was not injured. He was taken into protective custody without incident, police said.

The father was not injured. He was being interviewed by police investigators.

About 10 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the 500 block of South Levis Avenue to a complaint of possible criminal mischief.

The man’s mother told police her son was acting strangely, and after dousing a barbecue grill trailer outside the house with gasoline — but not setting it on fire — he locked himself in a bedroom where his son was sleeping.

He would not respond to her, prompting her to call authorities, police said.
